Robots vs Cobots; and will they replace humans?
Robots are machined programmed by computers capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically (Wikipedia). Interestingly, the name comes from the Czech word 'robota', which means hard work.
An industrial robot is used to automate the manufacturing process almost 100% without human help. In contrast, a cobot is designed to work alongside humans in tasks that may be dangerous, strenuous or tedious.
The question of whether robots will replace humans is endlessly debated; there is a surety that robots will change the future of labour. They don't tire out and can maintain a high level of efficiency for a specific task, but they can only do what they are told - whether directly by programming, or by way of machine learning.
Therefore, humans will always need to be present in order to design & utilise these machines.
As the philosopher E. Hubbard says, 'One machine can do the work of 50 ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.'
